National ticketing solution delayed

Nick James, reporting for RNZ:

The $1.4 billion national ticketing solution (NTS) has been delayed by a year with a review finding NZTA's original timings for the plan were "overly ambitious".
The revised national rollout plan for the NTS would be finalised later this month.

This is incredibly disappointing. There'll undoubtedly be reasons why this has cost $1.4 billion and has taken a decade with very few actual results. I'm sure in isolation each of those reasons make sense. That doesn't take the sting off for citizens, though.

Government can do amazing things – but it's hard to convince people when these kinds of technological improvements take over a decade to deliver.

It's not scheduled to arrive until 2027.

Sigh.
